Duke Drops Auditor Bid

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

Chester County Treasurer Ann Duke has ended her bid for Auditor General, citing Governor Tom Corbett’s support for Pa. Rep. John Maher (R-Allegheny).

Said Duke in a statement:

“As I have traveled the state for the past eight months, it has been wonderful to meet dedicated Republican supporters who are committed to winning this office in November. I want to first thank all of the volunteers, Republican state committee members, and donors that have supported my campaign. I also want to offer my support to Rep. John Maher. I am confident his experience and strong financial background will make him a great Auditor General.”

She is the second Republican this week to bow out of a primary because of Corbett’s support for an opponent. The Governor and his allies also indirectly ended the bid of John Rafferty, the Montgomery County state Senator who has been campaigning for Attorney General.

Her departure leaves just two Republicans in the race: Maher, and Frank Pinto, the former CEO of the Pa. Community Bankers Association.

Eugene DePasquale, a state Rep. from York, is the front runner for the Democratic nomination. Former Philadelphia Safe Schools Director Jack Stollsteimer is also considering a bid, and Devon Cade, a former candidate for State Rep. from Philadelphia, has declared a bid.

  1. That would be something to see! Anyway, the SE is frozen out of the GOP statewide candidate selection process. The rest of the state knows what Bob Asher pulled in Montco ruining a Republican County to further a political feud. The SE will get zip from the State Committee. The state party doesn’t care who is in the right. All they care about is avoiding the feud spilling over into statewide races. Their solution? Nominate nobody from the SE. The ones Asher picks, his foes destroy. Those that challenge Asher, he destroys. Not a good situation. Maybe Asher shouldn’t have taken such glee in the Jim Matthews defection? Everyone knows Asher engineered it. Seeing Jim led away in handcuffs must have brought a nostalgic tear to Bob’s eye.

  2. Does this mean Duke will actualy show up in her taxpayer paid office as Chester County Treasurer. Once a week would be a big change & would be a big improvement & maybe good news for taxpayers
