With one week remaining before the 2023 municipal general election, an important down-ballot race to watch in most Pennsylvania counties is for county commissioner.
Elected every four years, the county commissioners are responsible for policy-making, fiscal management and the administration of county affairs. The Commissioners serve on the Salary, Prison, Retirement, and Election Boards as well as a variety of other boards affiliated with county departments.
The commissioners name all department heads, as well as most members of the various boards, authorities, and committees. In addition, the commissioners appoint all county employees and, sitting as the Salary Board with the Controller, establish salaries of all employees.
Here are 34 county commissioner previews/Q and A’s culled from local newspapers. More to come as they become available.

Why didn’t they bother to tell us what the asterisks mean after some of the names?
My bad, Laura. * indicates incumbent.
Wherever and however you vote, elect good Democrats.
What if there no good democrats on the ballot in my county
Good question. I’ve never seen a good Democrat on any ballot.
