English Tests the Waters, But Opts Against Superior Court Bid

English_PORTAfter a brief flirtation with the campaign, State Representative Hal English (R-Allegheny) will not seek a seat on the Pennsylvania Superior Court.

English confirmed he was out to PoliticsPA but did not elaborate.

The three-term legislator from the North Hills made a surprise move Saturday when he showed up at the Southwest and Northwest Caucus meetings for the Pennsylvania Republican Party and asked to be considered in their straw poll votes for the race.

In the two straw polls he participated in he received a total of 20 votes of the 102 available.  English was not at the previous four regional caucus meetings where straw polls were held, and he was not included in the Pa. Bar Association’s candidate ratings.

There are 4 Superior Court on the ballot in 2017. Eight Republicans are currently vying in the primary field, including five who were included in the PA Bar’s ratings. The candidates in the straw polls were David Barton, Emil Giordano, Wade Kagarise, Mary Murray, Paula Patrick, Craig Stedman, Ray Tonkin, and Rebecca Warren.

  1. I’ll tell everybody what happened — English was brought in simply to take votes from other candidates in the endorsement process so the “chosen ones” get the endorsement. He didn’t just decide to test the waters during the last caucus meetings!! The fact that he did this says a lot about his character. The Republican party and their endorsement process is a joke. Watch what happens in November!
