State Senator and 2016 candidate for Attorney General John Rafferty won the support of his party leaders today.
President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati and Majority Leader Jake Corman are endorsing Rafferty’s campaign.
“As the Republican leaders of the State Senate, we are pleased to announce our full support of Senator John Rafferty’s campaign for Pennsylvania Attorney General,” they write in a letter to their colleagues. “He is the best candidate to represent the Republican Party in next year’s election.”
“We know John Rafferty to be a man of honor and integrity, qualities that will serve our next Attorney General well as he works to restore credibility and leadership to that critically important office,” they continue in a shot at the scandal-plagued incumbent Kathleen Kane.
The Senators go on to cite Rafferty’s work in the Senate and his tenure as Deputy Attorney General in the Criminal Law Division as examples of his qualifications.
Scarnati and Corman are also putting their money where their mouths are.
They will be holding a fundraiser for the Rafferty campaign on September 29th at the Federal Taphouse.
Twenty-four other State Senators will be in attendance: David G. Argall, Ryan P. Aument, Lisa Baker, Camera Bartolotta, Michele Brooks, Pat Browne, John H. Eichelberger Jr., Mike Folmer, John R. Gordner, Stewart J. Greenleaf, Tom McGarrigle, Charles T. McIlhinney Jr., Bob Mensch, Dominic Pileggi, Mario Scavello, Lloyd K. Smucker, Pat Stefano, Robert M. Tomlinson, Patricia H. Vance, Elder Vogel Jr., Randy Vulakovich Kim Ward, Don White, and Gene Yaw.
The campaign will be accepting contributions of $250, $500 and $1,000.
Rafferty is running against State Rep. Todd Stephens in the GOP primary. Democratic prosecutor Jack Stollsteimer is also running. Northampton County DA John Morganelli and Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro are expected to jump into the race as well. All the while, Attorney General Kathleen Kane insists she will run for re-election.

Can’t believe he would list Scarnati as a supporter — he’s as corrupt as they come. These politicians just don’t seem to get it.
Of course they do. They want to rid the Senate of moderate Rs. Cynical move.
Wagner was on the list in an earlier version. Rafferty must have used his name without permission. Very promising behavior from someone who wants to be AG.
Not surprising to see Scott Wagner missing from the list of supporters.
Senator Rafferty should expand on his time as a Deputy Attorney General. Would love to hear specifics as to what kinds of cases he handled and if he has ever been in the courtroom.
