The minimum wage opponents sit there with their nice salaries and health care fully covered while pontificating on how horrible boosting a $7 an hour salary would be for the economy (tips earning jobs get $2 plus an hour–$2 an hour????). Meanwhile, those living on the minimum wage cobble their pay from their numerous minimum wage jobs together to eek out a living on the margins. The problem is detachment. It’s easy when you are doing well to be philosophical about the minimum wage where those earning this wage are by no means “living it up.”
