FEC Slapped Murphy with $12K Fine

By Jared Edgerton, Contributing Writer

Former Representative Patrick Murphy was fined $12,000 by the Federal Elections Committee for failing to file a finance form within thirty days after the November election.

Murphy, who was unseated in the last election by Representative Mike Fitzpatrick, paid the fine and filed the necessary paperwork in February, however, the information was not made public until the commission released their weekly digest yesterday.

On Tuesday Murphy spokesman Nat Binns called it a simple mistake, reported Gary Weckselblatt of the Intellegencer.

“A staff member for the campaign believed that the report had been filed on time. Once the FEC brought the issue to the attention of the campaign, the report was filed.”

Currently Murphy is seeking the Democratic nomination for Attorney General. He has raised over $500,000 for that effort so far.
