Fetterman Does Best to Dispel Party Change Rumors

John Fetterman

“It’s not gonna happen. And even if I wanted to do that, that is a rocket sled to Palookaville to try to switch. I would make a pretty bad Republican.”

With those words to Semafor, Sen. John Fetterman did his best to dispel rumors that the former Commonwealth Lt. Governor would consider switching parties from Democrat to Republican.

Fetterman has raised eyebrows within his party in recent days, with his trip to Mar-a-Lago to see President Donald Trump, and his comments on various policy issues, including immigration and support for Israel, that have further fueled discussions about his political stance within the Democratic Party.

“I’m not just a Senator for Democrats – I’m a Senator for all Pennsylvanians,” tweeted Fetterman two weeks ago. “It’s my job to find common ground and deliver results for everybody. And because nobody is my gatekeeper, I will meet with anyone to secure some wins, including President Trump.”

Fuel was poured on the fire on Monday night by New Jersey assemblyman Jamel Holley.

The senior Senator’s response was truly on-key.

“That’s amateur hour shit.

“If they think, ‘oh, it’s going to be like a (Joe) Manchin or a (Kyrsten) Sinema play,’ that’s just not true, and that’s not going to happen,” Fetterman said — referring to former senators from West Virginia and Arizona, respectively, who left the Democratic Party but did not caucus with Republicans.

Republicans currently hold a 53-47 seat advantage in the U.S. Senate, where Democrats control 45 seats along with two Independents who caucus with them — Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Angus King of Maine.

Fetterman said in a fund-raising email that … “Even though Donald Trump is officially back in the White House, I’m not backing down from fighting for what’s right. Here are my non-negotiables:

1️⃣ The union way of life needs to live on
2️⃣ Leave LGBTQ+ people the f*ck alone
3️⃣ Government’s job is to make your life easier, not take away your rights

“I’ll work with Trump where I can to get wins for PA, but I’ll fight back *vigorously* if his administration tries to take away our rights and freedoms.

And regardless of who’s in the White House, I’ll never turn my back on the people who need me to lift up their voices. That’s a promise.”
