Fetterman Explores Bid for Lieutenant Governor

Braddock Mayor and former Senate candidate John Fetterman is reportedly considering a run to challenge Lieutenant Governor Mike Stack next year.

Sources told City & State that Fetterman has approached prominent Democrats in the state about a possible run.

Fetterman ran for Senate last in 2016 on a progressive platform, endorsing Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.  Fetterman won 20% of the vote in the Democratic primary.

Ed Rendell praised Fetterman after his run in 2016.

“John is the archetype of a Trump-Democratic voter, except that he has a master’s from Harvard. We should be using candidates like John in Pennsylvania all the time,” he said in late 2016.

  1. Fetterman or Aryanna would get my vote. Cozzone is definitely not ethical enough to ever get my vote. Stack is too hot headed and disrespectful to state workers.

  2. Some of the thoughts posted on this page definitely lack any evidence of thinking about the viability of Mr. Fetterman and/or other emerging candidates.

The budget debate and the results of the general lack of regard for the voters from the present Republican house are more of a direct subject of concern so this should also be considered.

I have to see what happens before making any decisions and would like this discussion to take place after the General election in November.

  3. In terms of name ID, right now in PA it’s probably Fetterman around 50% and Stack around 15%. No one knows who Stack is – and those who do only know about his scandals. Fetterman would win easily.

  4. I like John Fetterman, but this is what the Democrats do and this is why they lose. They eat their own. We have an incumbent, why Primary him? Do you believe what Wolf says? I don’t. Talk to the State Police – ask them if what Wolf says is the truth or is this something that his Campaign Manager and Scheduler cooked up to get rid of Stack. If we have a Primary fight, we will have a Republican Governor.

  5. Stack is more popular, especially in the Philadelphia area, than some of these know-nothing commenters think. Of course, it depends if the incompetent and self-important Democratic leaders of Bucks, ChesCo and DelCo Democrats buck their support for him to go with a shiny thing. Myopic stale leadership – time for a change across the board.

  6. I think for 3 more Democrats should also consider running for Lieutenant Governor and they are 1. Democrat Katie McGinity, 2. Democrat State Auditor Eugene DePasquale 3. Democrat Former Attorney General Candidate John Morganelli because for these 3 candidates can take down Mike Stack very easily in the primary.

    1. Along with John Fetterman as well and for it will be like a rematch for Katie McGinity and John Fetterman is to take down Mike Stack in the primary very easily.

    2. John Morganelli I would never vote for. His campaign lit in 08 was scary. You would think he was a fascist.

    3. I agree that Stack is likely vulnerable but a lot depends on whether is his indiscretions have cost him his Philadelphia base. As for the candidates suggested, two of them are very unlikely to run. There is no reason for a sitting State Auditor to run for Lieutenant Governor. His current position has a higher public profile if he is interested in higher office. My hunch is that Katie McGinity has moved on from statewide electoral politics for the mean time and her advisors would see no advantage for running for what is basically a ceremonial position.

I agree with others who have posted that Fetterman likely has the highest name recognition among all potential candidates and would pose a real threat to Stack. The other announced candidates would have a bigger challenge trying to get sufficient name recognition and support to run a successful primary campaign

    4. SHADY. KATIE. MCGINTY. OF THE REVOLVING DOOR OF POLITICS. AWARDED NUMEROUS LARGE GRANTS TO HER HUSBANDS COMPANIES. WHO WAS THE ARCHITECT OF THE LARGEST PROPOSED TAX INCREASE IN PA HISTORY, are you talking about that Katie McGinty? Yeah, needless to say, I think that well is dry.

  7. Too bad. La familia likes Lurch personally, like, for a Luca Brazzi or like that but not in politics because he is a square, can’t be trusted to do the wrong thing, we can’t make no money with him and he threatened to kick my cousin Stevie juniors ass. Also, he called our PRESIDENT a jag off. That is unforgivable

  8. Can’t wait for Mike and Tanya Stack to comment on this story the way they always comment on other PoliticsPA stories. A former staffer from when he was a state senator told me they both do all the time.

  9. Is self important Cole Goodman throwing his name into the race? Likely too busy searching for his next high school girl to impress.

    1. Cole Goldman doesn’t meet the bare constitutional requirements for any office he has been floating his name for. Kids like 20

  10. Alan Kennedy Shafer would be the best Lieutenant Governor that Pennsylvania ever had. John Fetterman has nothing on Alan.
