Fitzpatrick Elected Problem Solvers Caucus Co-Chair

A new leadership role for the Bucks County Republican.

On Wednesday, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks) was elected to serve as the new Co-Chair of the House Problem Solvers Caucus. Fitzpatrick will be taking over for Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY), who is retiring at the end of his term following accusations of sexual harassment, according to The Hill

Fitzpatrick issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon thanking his colleagues in the caucus for selecting him for the leadership role.

“I’m honored to have been elected Co-Chair of the @ProbSolveCaucus. I look forward to working alongside my friend, Co-Chair @RepJoshG, and PSC colleagues, as we continue our joint mission of building bridges & working to find common ground on every key issue facing our nation,” Fitzpatrick wrote in a tweet.

The Problem Solvers Caucus, which was created in 2017, is “committed to finding common ground on many of the key issues facing the nation.”

The bipartisan House caucus has 58 total members – 29 Democrats and 29 Republicans.

Pennsylvania currently has 5 members serving in the caucus, which is tied with Michigan for the second most of any state, while the lone state with more is California with 7 members.

In addition to Fitzpatrick, Pennsylvania’s current members are Reps. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Chester), Conor Lamb (D-Allegheny), Dan Meuser (R-Luzerne), and Lloyd Smucker (R-Lancaster).

Rep. G.T. Thompson (R-Centre) and former Congressmen Ryan Costello (R-Chester), Charlie Dent (R-Lehigh), and Pat Meehan (R-Delaware) were previously members of the caucus as well.

Fitzpatrick defeated Democratic challenge Christina Finello by 13 points in 2020 to earn a third term in Congress. Biden carried the 1st Congressional District over Trump by nearly 6 points, according to Daily Kos

Fitzpatrick is the lone Republican in the state to represent a Biden won district.
