F&M Poll: Corbett’s Numbers Remain Low

Corbett exitAnother poll brings bad news for Tom Corbett.

Just one in five voters thinks the Governor is doing a good or excellent job according to the latest survey from Franklin & Marshall. The same percent thinks he deserves re-election.

The pollster surveyed 628 registered voters via live interviews from October 22-27. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.9%.

1% said the Governor is doing an excellent job, 18% said a good job, 39% said only a fair job, and 37% said he’s doing a poor job.

20% said Corbett deserves re-election, while 67% said it’s time for a change.

23% have a strongly or somewhat favorable view of Corbett personally versus a total of 52% who have an unfavorably view (36% view him strongly unfavorably).

Democrats have consistently brought down his numbers, but it is Republicans who are to blame for Corbett being so far underwater. By a narrow margin, 44% to 42%, Republican respondents said Corbett should step aside rather than seek re-election.

Just 34% of GOP voters said they approve his job performance. Only 18% of independents said the same.

The numbers are a slight uptick from August, when just 17% said he was doing an excellent or good job.

The silver lining for Corbett: his latest legislative initiative is very popular. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) allows states to expand Medicaid as a way of providing health insurance coverage to the poor. That received positive approval, 68% to 25%.

But Corbett’s alternate proposal, using private sector insurance companies to expand health care for the poor along with adding a requirement that recipients be seeking a job, is even more popular. 72% of respondents support Corbett’s version versus just 18% who oppose it.

  1. The governor should have been impeached for him ignoring Sandusky and letting him on the street while serving as AG.

  2. Can’t win the state without at least moderate support from the suburban counties around Philly, and Schwartz has them locked up. Does anyone disagree?

  3. Isn’t the Auditor General 110% correct on this one: the Presidency of Penn State University should not be turned into another Tom Corbett/Brabender patronage job, like the Head of the Turnpike Authority. Is there another Nutt family member to be forced on the PSU board? Doesn’t Tom Corbett sit in on those meetings with a gun to everyone’s head? Thank you AG Pasquale for keeping the dirty hands of Tom Corbett out of this postiion. http://www.post-gazette.com/news/education/2013/11/01/PSU-urged-to-give-vi

  4. It doesn’t matter if another Republican runs or not. The first question to the other Republican is going to be “How many times have you voted with Corbett?” Answer will be: 90%+.

Next question “How are you different than Corbett?” Answer will be I am not!

  5. Not sure who drafted Terry’s “Medicaid expansion” poll questions, but they present the governor’s proposal incorrectly. The governor is not proposing “Medicaid expansion” – he’s proposing using the federal money that would’ve gone toward expansion to instead let people buy insurance on the private market. Huge difference, yet the questions don’t reflect the difference between HealthyPA and Medicaid expansion.
