Former assistant U.S. attorney Conor Lamb announced Saturday he is running as a Democrat to replace resigning Congressman Tim Murphy (R-Allegheny).
“I’m just focused on the members of the [Democratic] committee,” Lamb told the Post-Gazette about the special election that will be held to replace Murphy.
Governor Tom Wolf will have 10 days to set the date of the special election to replace Murphy, who is resigning October 21st. The local Democratic parties will make a recommendation to the state party of who should be nominated, but the state party’s executive committee will decide who the candidate will be.
Lamb, the nephew of Pittsburgh’s city controller Michael Lamb, is a former assistant U.S. attorney and Marine Corps prosecutor. Lamb stepped down from his job U.S. attorney position last week.
Democrats Gina Cerilli, Mike Crossey, Pam Iovino, and Dr. Bob Solomon are also in the race to replace Murphy.

Who gives up a prestigious and powerful AUSA job for the slim chance of being nominated for an even slimmer chance of winning as a Democrat in western PA?
Southwestmom – Have you even talked to Pam Snyder? I wish I had an eye roll emoji to use. Jeesh.
The people want Pam! I just hope the democrat insiders are willing to listen.
I think for they should nominate Former Governor Tom Corbett and Pam Snyder as Republican and Democratic Nominees for congress in Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District in 2018 special election and the general election.
Well Tom Corbett supposedly lives in Shaler, right? Which isn’t in the 18th district?
I hope the executive committee is willing to listen to the people and nominate Pam Snyder. She is a strong advocate for Southwest PA and will bring that to Washington!
I do not think Pam Snyder is in the 18th district, as a committee member here, I have yet to hear her name as a candidate.
