Former Superintendent Looks to Challenge Smucker

JGeorge photoDemocrat John George is jumping into the race to challenge Congressman Lloyd Smucker (R-Lancaster) next year.

“I am mostly angered and frustrated by what we are seeing coming out of Washington,” George said in an interview with PoliticsPA about why he is entering the race.

George, a former Warwick superintendent, says that the appointment of Betsy Devos to head the Education Department particullarly struck him and motivated him to get into the race.

“Smucker was silent through the Devos appointment, we only heard silence,” George said.

“We see the world very differently so I finally made the decision to get in the race.”

George believes his background as a superintendent will be benificial to the campaign and in D.C.

“On the school board are Republicans and Democrats who you need to find compromise between.  The fact they can’t do that in D.C. is worrisome.”

Pharmacist Charles Klein has already entered the race.  Christina Hartman, who lost to Smucker in 2016, is also considering jumping into the race.

  1. This guy does know, that as a member of the House, Smucker couldn’t help or hinder the appointment of Betsy DeVos, right?

  2. What is a “superintendent”? Is this a former superintendent of SCHOOLS? (With so many municipalities having home-rule charters, it’s not clear.)
