Fox News Proposes Harris-Trump Debate for Sept. 17 in Pennsylvania

Kamala Harris, Donald Trump

Fox News has proposed a new September 17 debate to the presidential campaigns of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, a sign that TV networks see new opportunity amid a chaotic run for the White House and a desire by both sides to skip around the traditions that have been set in place in the past by the Commission on Presidential Debates.

Jay Wallace, the president and executive editor of Fox News Media, penned letters to the Harris and Trump campaigns and proposed a debate moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum,

The debate is also proposed to be held in Pennsylvania, but no details elaborated on a possible location.

“We are open to discussion on the exact date, format and location — with or without an audience,” Wallace said. The letters to campaign officials contained statistics on Fox News’ reach among independent voters in swing states.

ABC News had secured a September 10 debate between Trump and President Joe Biden that has now become moot with the departure of Biden from the race. Trump has suggested that he is open to debating Harris and floated the idea of a debate on Fox News.

Approximately 51.27 million viewers watched first Biden-Trump debate on June 27, according to Nielsen, which was simulcast across 22 networks.
