George Suspends 16th District Campaign

Former Warwick superintendent John George announced he is suspending his campaign for the Democratic nomination in the 16th Congressional District.

“I have reluctantly concluded that at present, I will not be able to run a successful congressional campaign this election cycle,” George said in a statement.

George was one of the first candidates to enter the race.

George said he will explore other ways to serve the community, despite dropping out of the race.

“I will remain engaged in political activities and vow to continue be a voice for public education and all those who face injustice because of their race, ethnicity, gender, economic status, religion, ability level, or sexual orientation. I am investigating options as to how I may best serve the people of our community without compromising my effectiveness as a husband, father and educator,” George said.

Christina Hartman, nonprofit director Jessica King, and Lancaster city resident Richard Griffiths Smith Jr are all running for the seat.

  1. I’ve met John and liked what he had to say. He also seemed like a genuine down-to-Earth guy who just wanted what was best for people. In addition, I’ve only heard good things about his tenure as former Executive Director of the Berks County Intermediate Unit. Hopefully, he continues to serve in some capacity and I wish him well!

  2. I certainly hope that here like in the other contests the county leadership calls for an early (Jan) nominating convention to determine whether they will endorse candidates or have an open primary.

    1. That’s a nonsensical comment. He realized he cannot be competitive. Why does that equate to someone having “dirt” on him?
