Former state Rep. Marc Gergely (D-Allegheny) was sentenced to 18 months house arrest and three years of probation after pleading guilty to his role in an illegal gambling ring.
Gergely plead guilty to corruption by accepting illegal campaign donations and conspiracy related to an illegal gambling ring in August.
According to the Post-Gazette, the sting that ended in Gergely’s plea resulted in the arrests of 16 people in 2013.
Gergely resigned his seat in November, when his sentencing was originally scheduled. The Post-Gazette reports that Gergely will keep his pension, as the crimes he plead guilty to did were not covered by the state’s pension forfeiture law.
