Gillibrand To Stop In Pittsburgh

A bus tour through the rustbelt.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) will be stopping in Pittsburgh on Thursday, July 11 to begin a two day tour bus tour in three states that President Barack Obama won twice, but flipped to President Donald Trump in 2016. The tour that begins in Pittsburgh and ends in Lansing, MI is being labeled the “Trump Broken Promises” bus tour.

“The ‘Trump Broken Promises Tour,’ will shine a bright light on the president’s abject failure to keep his word to the American people on kitchen table issues that impact their lives each day,” Gillibrand said in a release. “We’ll head to Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan to highlight Trump’s empty promises on issues like drug prices, jobs and gun violence prevention with policy solutions that will actually deliver for working people. To beat President Trump, you have to have the courage and toughness to go toe-to-toe with him and call out his lies on the issues.”

She’ll participate in a roundtable event with health care workers to discuss the pharmaceutical industry and prescription drug prices starting at 10 am on Thursday in Pittsburgh.

In addition to her upcoming appearance in Pittsburgh, the Gillibrand campaign has released a 30 second television and digital ads to air in the Pittsburgh market. The 30 second spot, “I Promise” attacks Trump’s record on manufacturing, drug prices, and infrastructure in an effort to appeal to Obama-Trump voters.

The Pennsylvania GOP fired back at the ad calling Gillibrand “too extreme for voters” and lauded Trump’s record on the economy in the state.

“Sen. Kristen Gillibrand is polling at two percent because she has no cognizable record of achievement and is too extreme for voters,” said PAGOP Communications Director Jason Gottesman. “Maybe it’s time Sen. Gillibrand focused on not being the next socialist to drop out of the 2020 Democrat Presidential race instead of creating false narratives that further divide this country.”

Gillibrand becomes the fifth 2020 Democratic hopeful set to campaign in the state, and the third candidate to stop in Pittsburgh. Former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke was the first to hold a rally in State College in March. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) made a swing through the state that included appearances in Pittsburgh, Bethlehem for a Fox News town hall, and Luzerne County in April. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) participated in a town hall in Northeast Philadelphia with members of the American Federation of Teachers touting her education plan in May. Former Vice President Joe Biden held his first public event in Pittsburgh at a Teamster Hall, while taking on Philadelphia for his official “campaign kickoff rally” in May.

An Emerson College poll conducted in late March had Gillibrand garnering 2% of the vote for Democratic primary voters in the state. A Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll conducted in April did not include Gillibrand in the eight Democratic candidate options presented. Both polls showed Biden besting Trump by roughly 10 points.

Pa. holds its 2020 primary on April 28, right at the midpoint of the Democratic calendar.

This story was updated to include the television ad from the Gillibrand campaign and a comment from the Pennsylvania GOP.

  1. If a Democratic “presidential” candidate makes an appearance and no one listens, is she still lying?

  2. Steel doing great. Unemployment down, particularly among POC. Wages up. Not sure what promises were broken. I’m no fan of Trump, but he’s one of the few politicians looking out for our citizens, particularly the poor. Trump is stuck with a partisan congress that would rather flood the country with millions of illiterate, unskilled illegal immigrants rather than looking out for our own African American population who are the ones who are most negatively affected by illegal immigration.

    1. “looking out for our citizens, particularly the poor”…

Yes, absolutely. A trillion dollar tax cut heavily weighted up to the first 400 jerks in this country, yes that really helps the poor. Where do you stupid rednecks come from?

      1. I noticed you once again ignored the point about and plight of our African American population who are disproportionately damaged by illegal immigration pushing wages down, driving housing costs up, and taking up badly needed resources in schools and healthcare.

Typical racist liberal doesn’t care about African Americans.

    2. I’m in Trump loving rural PA and we’re still waiting for this huge coal comeback that Trump promised. And Trumpers need to stop pushing the narrative that wages are up. The middle class has been taking it up the backside in losing the wage gap war since Reagan started the trickle down myth. Since 1980, the rich have gotten wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy richer and the wage gap has grown. The top of the wage scale is contributing too little to the system BUT, they want the government to pay for their infrastructure (road, water lines, fiber optic, grants, property tax breaks like LERTA etc) before they will build or expand their businesses. This is the crime in this country – personal tax cuts for the wealthy, but then the system must subsidize there businesses AKA Corporate Welfare. All the while, the federal government debt grows and grows and grows – OVER $22 Trillion now. Of course, most, if not all, of the Democratic candidates are WRONG too. They want to expand spending but won’t pay for it OR even address the debt. BUT, the Republicans are even worse over the last 40 years since Reagan in their constant lust to cut taxes for the wealthy – Reagan in the 80’s, W. Bush in 2001 and now Trump. Trump is doing what he does best though – doing things to bring about a bankruptcy. BUT – THE REAL STORY IS THE WAGE GAP. The rich have gotten richer and the middle class has gotten poorer. Until we get a real leader who will return to the tax rates of the 50’s and use the revenue to decrease the national debt – the USA is headed for a fiscal crisis that will bring us down.

    3. Just wait until Trump slashes Medicare and social security. All in the name of reigning in the debt! How considerate!!

  3. Attractive lady, but not attractive candidate. Do not trust her for a minute. Will flip flop and take positions according to political calculations. Has no core; no integrity.
But I would still vote for her over Trump. Just that she is far from the best Dem candidate.
