Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman Rob Gleason announced his support for Reince Priebus over incumbent Chairman Michael Steele to head the Republican National Committee.
Gleason told PoliticsPa.com Monday that he is “honored” to support Priebus, stating that he believes the RNC needs new leadership, despite hefty GOP gains in the U.S. House and Senate in 2010.
“Despite our Party’s electoral success in 2010, it has become clear that the RNC needs new leadership,” he stated in an email response. ” We need a chairman who is committed to fundraising, party building and grassroots campaigning in advance of the critical 2011-2012 election cycle.”
Gleason, who supported former South Carolina GOP chairman Katon Dawson for the RNC chair in 2009, said that Priebus is the “best choice” to lead the party.
Priebus has been the Wisconsin GOP chairman since 2007.
