It’s that time of year politicos. Republicans from around Pa. will gather this weekend in Harrisburg for their winter state committee meeting.
The party will drink over its wins (Congress, state House) and losses (all statewide races), and plan for 2014.
They’ll also endorse for Pa. Superior Court.
Democrats are also meeting this weekend, a little ways down the road in Hershey.
Stories to watch:
2014
This is the first GOP meeting of the 2014 cycle. There aren’t any open statewide seats in 2014, so the question will be how seamlessly they close ranks behind the Governor.
Montgomery County Commissioner Bruce Castor, who threatened a primary to challenge to Corbett, may not attend (he rather famously detests the party machinery). But he will be on everyone’s mind.
2013
All of a sudden, there’s a race for Pa. Superior Court. Ron Wyda (Allegheny Co. judge) has launched a bid against Vic Stable (Cumberland Co. attorney). Stabile will probably walk away with the endorsement, but will there be fireworks?
Here’s the schedule of events:
Friday
2013 PA GOP Annual Lincoln Day Dinner featuring Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell
Harrisburg Hilton Ballroom
7:00 p.m.
Governor Tom Corbett will welcome Gov. McDonnell for the annual Friday night dinner. A confederate Governor is an interesting guest, as Keystone Politics jibed, for the Lincoln dinner – but the two are friends and have campaigned together. Freshman Congressmen Scott Perry and Keith Rothfus will be honored, too.
Tom Smith “Thank You” Reception
Metropolitan Room, Harrisburg Hilton
Immediately following dinner
The U.S. Senate hopeful, who has said that he plans to stay involved in a capacity yet to be determined, will pay his respects to the party-goers who (eventually) supported his bid.
Chairman Gleason Reception for Gov. Corbett and LG. Cawley
Pennsylvania Ballroom
9pm – 12am
Following dinner
The chairman will welcome the Governor and give a chance for dinner-goers to mingle with the Guv.
Saturday
Winter Meeting
Harrisburg Hilton Ballroom
9:30am
The party will conduct its official business, including an endorsement vote for Pa. Superior Court.

The appearance of Bob McDonnell should really help Corbett close the gender gap: http://youtu.be/SHYR-dYdxcw
It’s as simple as ABC: Anybody but Corbett! http://youtu.be/M-aSjHnbw18 AG KANE: You bewitched me on the campaign trail! Now weave your OLD BLACK MAGIC! http://youtu.be/VAdlBqxvZ4E
There will be a lot of glum faces. And Tom’s will be one of them. Rightfully so. He has blown his opportunity and now threatens to take the whole party down with him.
