Governing Magazine Projects GOP Likely to Hold Onto Legislative Majorities

pa-state-capitol-b175d9a07740ecf3Amidst all the excitement of the presidential and statewide races, it’s easy to forget that several local legislators will also be on the ballot this November.

Louis Jacobson of Governing Magazine analyzed the battles to control the state legislatures in all fifty states and found 27 chambers are in play. At the moment, though, neither of Pennsylvania’s are included in that total.

The GOP has large majorities in both houses of the PA legislature with a 31-19 advantage in the State Senate and a 119-84 margin in the State House.

They are both categorized as “Likely Republican”.

“Pennsylvania Republicans enjoy disproportionately large margins in both chambers thanks to redistricting, despite the state’s overall purple-to-blue lean,” Jacobson writes. “Trump’s presence on the ballot could hurt in some suburban areas if voters punish down-ballot Republicans. But even if the GOP loses seats there, Trump is strong in other parts of the state, and it’s not likely to be enough to flip either chamber this cycle.”

So while PA has many competitive statewide contests, it doesn’t appear that they’ll be any notable shift in the most local races.

  1. Vote GOP and you vote to go back to the 18th Century, in Mississippi, no matter where you live.

  2. The SDCC has done squat to move the ball forward and refused to help some candidates even get on the ballot. Completely useless organization.

  3. This is what Republican legislators are up to:

“State Rep. Kenny Havard, R-St. Francisville, officially submitted a written amendment to legislation that would have mandated dancers at strip clubs be no older than 28 and no heavier than 160 pounds.”

If this became law, SpongeBob’s daughter would have to get a new job.
