Conservative backlash against Sen. Pat Toomey and his effort to expand background checks for gun purchases is on the air.
The National Association for Gun Rights says Pat Toomey’s bipartisan push for gun legislation makes him look like late Sen. Arlen Specter.
“Toomey is still trying to bail out Obama’s failed gun control agenda, and hand Obama and his law-abusing lieutenants even more information about law-abiding gun owners,” says a narrator.
The ad highlights recent White House missteps and accuses Toomey of working to boost President Obama with a high profile legislative victory.
It shows a photo of Toomey transforming into a photo of late Sen. Arlen Specter.
“Pat Toomey doesn’t sound like a conservative, or a Republican. He sounds like someone else,” the narrator says.
Specter narrowly beat Toomey in a 2004 GOP primary, and switched from Republican to Democrat in 2009. He passed away late last year.
PoliticsPA is seeking comment from Toomey.
The commercial represents a relatively light ad buy, constrained to cable. The ad itself appears to have been produced inexpensive and in-house. The group is only advertising in Pennsylvania at present.
It’s the first ad on the air criticizing Toomey. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s pro-gun control group Mayors Against Illegal Guns Action Fund spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on ads praising Toomey after he and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) sought to push a background checks bill.
Toomey has said he continues to support the measure, but has not actively pursue it since their effort failed in the Senate in April. At the time, Toomey’s conservative supporters loudly criticized his support for the measure but he earned wide plaudits from moderates and liberals.
NAGR spokeswoman Danielle Thompson said the group wasn’t trying to balance the Bloomberg ads.
Instead, she said, “It’s about his past agenda and what we hope we don’t see in the future.”

The ad is absolutly right. Toomey needs to stay out of the gun issue. He needs to stay where he is best – finances We must thank him for voting against immigration.
says thanks. This ad promotes Pat Toomey as less the right wing ideologue as he so wrongfully, and vicioiusly, caricatured by Left and partisan Democrats.
The Toomey-Manchin amendment is premised on simple, common sense idea that the criminal background check database has to be complete and accurate. This is not radical and is, unless you think anyone, even criminals and mentally ill should get guns or the Republic will perish, common sense.
Pat Toomey has found common ground, much different than compromise, with Sen. McCaskill, with Sen. Casey, with Senator Joe Manchin and recently Senator Wyden.http://www.toomey.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=1079
Everyone except Democrats and Liberals understand that our country, and our state, are going bankrupt and that higher taxes lower productivity and our standard of living. The Tea Party and The Forgotten Taxpayer knows he and she pay the taxes for ever expanding and more expensive government. Democrats think money grows on trees.
Pat Toomey’s policies are policies of economic freedom, higher standard of living and common sense.
Disgraceful. Also, I find the comparison humours as Arlen Specter recieved consistant A+ ratings from the NRA. Let the the man rest in peace.
this ad is nothing more then a misleading information this ad is disgraceful
No one is perfect. Toomey does oppose the communist minimum wage, opposes abortion, opposes gay marriage and he opposes pork spending. You can’t ask for too much more than that. Also if Obama nominates another Marxist like Kagan or the wise Latina, you can bet Toomey will be there to help block another radical from going on the bench. He still is very highly rated by the NRA. We need him.
Are you a pragmatic and centrist Democrat like me? Are you also impressed with Senator Toomey’s work on background checks and his ability to reach across party lines? Then join me and other PA Dems in supporting Senator Toomey’s reelection.

When somebody uses a term like “Rethuglican,” “Dumbocrat,” “Teabagger” or “Lieberal,” I simply cannot bring myself to take anything that they type seriously. But hey, that’s just me…
Rethugs eating their own. Delicious.
