Most Pennsylvanians are getting more than just a paycheck out of their jobs, a new Harper Poll shows.
Two-thirds of workers in the state say they enjoy what they do for a living, especially those who work outdoors (81%). A quarter of PA’s workforce, however, admit they are doing it just to pay the bills.
In a state whose economy was built on steel and coal, only 9% of laborers still work in a factory. More people now work from home – 13% – than in a factory, illustrating the changing times and industries. An additional 9% spend their work week outdoors, while 5% say their jobs are mostly travel-based, according to the poll.
A third of PA’s labor force works in small businesses with less than 25 employees. 20% work in businesses with 101 to 500 employees, while another 19% have over 1,000 co-workers.
Harper polled 546 Pennsylvania residents for this survey through landline interviews conducted using Interactive Voice Response (IVR). It took place on July 12th and 13th and the margin of error is +/- 4.19%
