Hart Exits Governor’s Race After Residency Question

Kris HartThe importance of looking at all the required qualifications for a job came into focus for Kris Hart this week.

Hart, who announced earlier this week that he would be running for Governor, had to quickly withdraw from the race after a question about his residency in the state.

WHYY reporter Dave Davies learned that Hart did not meet the Constitutional requirement that a Gubernatorial candidate must live in the commonwealth for seven years prior to the election.

Hart moved back to Pennsylvania in May, putting him well below the requirement.  Hart is still considering a run for the U.S. Senate.

In March, Hart formed an exploratory committee to look into a possible Senate run.  Earlier this week, Hart shocked some observers by announcing instead for the Governor’s race.

Hart has deleted his tweets about his run for Governor, but the announcement press release is still available on his website as of writing.

  1. This is the guy we want running the state when he doesn’t even know the qualifications for the job. Impressive start to his political career. The senate – what a joke.

  2. Next best thing, Senate, gotta run for something. As we say in Dutch Country, ” Dumma (long U) Orschluck”.

  3. Save your money and the money of the people who are close to you. There is no reason for you to run at this point. Formulate a message and come back to run in a couple of years.
