HD-10: Former Congresswoman Melissa Hart Endorses Bernstine

BernstineLawrence County resident Aaron Bernstine has received his first major endorsement in the Republican primary season.

Former U.S. Representative Melissa Hart said Tuesday that “the ongoing scandal and budget gridlock in Harrisburg demands a fresh voice to speak to the conservative values and traditions of western Pennsylvania. In an atmosphere where government seems dysfunctional, Aaron Bernstine is a guy who can make it work.”

Hart is the former Representative for the 4th Congressional District and was the first woman to represent PA at the federal level. She lost the 2012 primary to State Rep. Randy Vulakovich.

Though the 10th district has been solidly Democratic for years, recent redistricting changes have opened the door for a Republican transition in 2016.

Alongside this endorsement, Bernstine announced that they raised $25,000 in the final quarter of 2015. “I am humbled by the strong financial support, endorsements, and large number of people who want to volunteer on our campaign from around the district,” he stated.

According to the Bernstine campaign, this fundraising total came from 187 individual donors.

“This shows we’re attracting a wide base of supporters. Many of our contributors have never donated to a political campaign. They are ready to be part of a movement that brings integrity and common sense to Harrisburg. I am honored to have them on our team.”

Bernstine will be facing 9-year veteran Democratic incumbent Jaret Gibbons in the general election.

The 10th legislative district includes parts of Beaver, Butler, and Lawrence Counties.

  1. Um…another correction. Hart didn’t lose a primary to Randy Vulakovich. She lost a committee vote to him to be nominated to the state senate. After she lost her seat in Congress to Jason Altmire.

Hey, Missy, is your VW still parked at the Capitol?

  2. What a waste of time and money. Any democrat like gibbons who has survived bloodbaths like 2010 and 2014 will have no problem in 2016 especially with wall streeters Trump and Toomey on the ticket

  3. Correction: Congresswoman Hart was not the first woman to represent PA at the Federal level.
Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky was, in the 1992 election.
Hart wasn’t elected to Congress until 2000.

  4. Hart is still a big player out this way and she is certainly one of the people Republican women consult on matters of politics and policy. Harrisburg types might not give it much credence, but Hart’s endorsement, especially with another Republican woman in the race, will be a big help. It certainly won’t decide the race, but it’s going to be noticed.

  5. A major endorsement? From an ex-politico who got run off the reservation for hiring a bank robber—bad check artist as her chief of staff? Are those Republican values? Bernadine just got endorsed by Frankenstein!
