Hoping to bring a new generation’s perspective to his neighbors, Cristian Luna announced his run for the 13th Legislative District seat in Harrisburg.
A West Grove native and Avon Grove High School graduate, Luna presently serves domestic violence victims toward safety through the legal process as a Deputy Prothonotary in the Chester County Prothonotary’s office. He is charged with maintaining Protection from Abuse cases, and previously served as a bilingual Legal Advocate with the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County.
“The choices being made at the state level not only impact our current residents but their children and grandchildren,” said Luna. “Now is the time for new leadership that is not only thinking about the present but bringing innovative solutions for a strong future in Southern Chester County. I’m running to protect the community that we call home and ensure that it is safe, vibrant, accessible, and affordable now and for generations to come.
“Every day I handle the paperwork for some of our county’s most sensitive situations with empathy, care, and dignity,” Luna added. “I want to bring this high-quality, compassionate, and accessible service to all my constituents in Southern Chester County but especially those that feel left behind by their government.”
His priorities include protecting clean, safe and affordable drinking water as well as protecting small local farms from threats including climate change.
“We all deserve access to clean, safe, and affordable drinking water and the Chester Water Authority has been providing this life-sustaining service to our community for generations,” Luna said. “Yet our current representative has voted for disastrous legislation such as Act 12, which directly led to increased efforts to privatize water systems and dramatically raised rates for families. This is why we need new, forward-thinking leadership that will protect our neighbors’ hard-earned money with their votes in Harrisburg.
“Agriculture and farming is at the heart of our community and is the driving force behind our local economy,” Luna said. “However, the impacts of climate change are wreaking havoc on our local farms and our current representative offers no solutions to address the problem. Once in Harrisburg, I’ll take meaningful action to tackle the climate crisis to save our small community farms.”
Some of Luna’s other priorities include fully and fairly funding public education for our students, defending the freedom to vote, and protecting and expanding healthcare access.
Luna, a Democrat, hopes to challenge incumbent John Lawrence (R-Chester) in the fall. Lawrence defeated Democrat David Cunningham by 18 points last cycle.
The 13th Legislative District encompasses the townships of East Nottingham, Elk, Franklin, Highland, London Britain, London Grove, Londonderry, Lower Oxford, New London, Penn, Upper Oxford, West Fallowfield and West Nottingham as well as the boroughs of Oxford and West Grove.
