HD-148: Environmental Lawyer Announces Challenge to Daley

Jason Landau Goodman

For the first time in many years, Lower Merion residents have a choice to make in the Democratic primary for the 148th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House.

Environmental attorney Jason Landau Goodman has announced that he will challenge 12-year incumbent Mary Jo Daley (D-Montgomery) for the Democratic nomination in April.

Landau Goodman recently resigned from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to devote his attention to the new campaign. A long-time civil rights advocate, he has spent 15 years advancing the cause for LGBTQ Pennsylvanians through local and state government.

“I’ve worked within local and state government to help enact dozens of laws and policies with bipartisan support that benefit Pennsylvanians today,” said Landau Goodman. “As a teenager I spearheaded the successful adoption of Lower Merion’s landmark nondiscrimination ordinance – the first township in the state to do so – and then in municipalities across the commonwealth. I went on to ultimately form a statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization I helmed as Executive Director for over a decade before joining the Governor’s Office of General Counsel.”

He spent three years as assistant counsel at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Prior to that stint, Goodman spent 10 years as Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Youth Congress, a youth-led statewide policy organization representing young LGBTQ Pennsylvanians working toward safer schools and communities.

Landau Goodman received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D from the University of Pittsburgh Law School.

“I am running for State Representative because our communities need and deserve strong representation here and in Harrisburg now,” he said in a campaign announcement. “We need someone who is engaged, vigilant, and persistent in getting things done that benefit our communities. I respect Representative Daley’s long record of public service. This is not personal. I feel our district needs a change in direction and I will bring a new energy and focus to the district. My track record as an attorney, advocate, and bridge builder across the commonwealth puts me in a unique position to deliver on issues that matter most to our communities by helping get meaningful bills to the Governor’s desk.”

Landau Goodman is seeking an open primary with no endorsement by the Montgomery County Democratic Committee to give the voters of the 148th District a real choice.

“Democratic leaders and voters are excited by this opportunity to have a real conversation on their representation in the 148th district. Voters in our district have not had an open choice in their Democratic candidate in 20 years. I’ve raised money, hired staff, and built a strong platform that deserves a fair shot. We should be open to allowing viable candidates who bring a lot to the table be heard by the voters.”

  1. The last decade of whispering campaigns against her friends’ primary opponents might finally catch up to her.

  2. Du? Check who you have resigning. Proofreading is a good idea, even for a merged website. Poor journalism.
