The fourth time’s the charm. After 3 cycles of bad election years or ineffective candidates, the Republicans finally beat Rep. Rick Mirabito.

There is a new representative from the 83rd House District: Jeff Wheeland, the current County Commissioner of Lycoming County.

Mirabito, the three term Democratic incumbent, lost to his Republican challenger, Jeff Wheeland, in one of the closest races of the election season.

With 97% of the precincts reporting, Wheeland led Mirabito by ten points, 8,105 votes to 6,581.
The race in the 83rd District marked a big House flip for Republicans, who controlled the district from 1975 until 2008.

The race in House District 83 takes place in Lycoming County, with Williamsport making up most of the district. It was the most GOP-leaning district represented by a Democrat.
