HD-87: Grell to Serve as PSERS Executive Director

Glen-GrellState Representative Glen Grell is moving on.

Grell is set to become the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania School Employees Retirement System.

According to Kevin Zwick of Capitolwire, Rep. Grell had issues with Speaker Turzai that contributed to his exit.

The soon-to-be former State Rep. served on the PSERS board but Turzai did not reappoint him because he was seen as too close to the labor unions. For instance, Grell opposed a plan to switch employees from a pension to a 401(k) system.

Grell has represented the 87th district since 2004. He sits on the House Judiciary, State Government, Insurance and Labor Relations Committee.

The 87th district is located in Cumberland County. There is no word yet on when a special election will take place.

  1. Fairly certain this is not considered a civil position as the term is defined and understood.

  2. Thank god that the Pension crisis is now being overseen by a non-political career pension management expert.
As a part of his negotiations will Mr. Grill renounce his state pension?

  3. Steve is of course completely right. Those who imagined that much remains of real journalism in the Capitol can count themselves as disabused.

  4. I thought it was unconstitutional for a sitting member of the General Assembly to resign in order to accept another civil position under the Commonwealth, until their term of office expires (see Jeff Coy, PA Gaming Board). How is this different? Can PoliticsPA check it out?
