The battle for the seat vacated by the retiring republican Rep. Nicholas Micozzie ended up in victory for Republican candidate Jamie Santora. With two-thirds of precincts reporting, Santora defeated Democratic candidate Vincent Rongione 53% to 47% with a lead of 1,400 votes.
Santora was endorsed by several organizations with heavy clout, including the International Union of Operating Engineers, Delco Police Chiefs and The Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association.
Both were unopposed in their respective primaries.
Santora is a current councilman at large in Upper Darby Township. He’s held the position since 2011.
The district is located in the heart of Delaware County.

Honorable Jamie Santora I need your help. I am the Power of Attorney for my brother in law Ed DeStefano. I need your help. I have been dealing with the Department of Human Services for the last several months. They keep on sending me claims for recovery of monies paid by the Department of Human Services (recovery Section) for the estate (which is non-existent)of Edward DeStefano Deceased 01-03-2015. Ed (my brother in law)died penniless. He was in St Martha’s Nursing/Assistant living home for the last 8-9 years of his life. The nursing home took all of Ed’s savings, pension, and social security to help pay for his stay at the Nursing Home/Assistant living. The price of the nursing home per month was $9000 that is nine-thousand per month. The Assistant living before the Nursing Home was $4500 per month. At these prices it didn’t take any time at all for them to exhaust all of Ed’s savings. When Ed died he had nothing. No savings, no home, nothing. The department of Human Services wants $101,825.38 from his estate. As stated before Ed had no money when he died to even establish an “Estate”. I explained to them previously that Ed died a pauper – he wouldn’t have had enough money for his funeral if we didn’t set aside funds for his funeral when he entered St Martha’s Nursing home knowing that they would take everything he had. Please help me to get through to the Department of Human services to make them understand there was no estate. He did not have any money to distribute. Jim DeLorenzo your loyal constituent from the 163rd district. Ed’s CIS: 820354851 Date of Death 1-03-2015
This election year, some incumbents and challengers realized that, despite years of property tax relief efforts, property taxes are still rising. This culminated in the election of several supporters of the Property Tax Independence Act (House and Senate bills 76) in Pennsylvania.
One item that kept coming up during conversations about HB/SB 76: How it would affect the poor. The Heritage Foundation recently released a report, “The War on Poverty After 50 Years.”.
One statistic stuck out: “Forty-two percent of all poor households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.”.
Obviously, this is a national average. In Pennsylvania the percentage of poor households could be higher or lower. As it stands right now, current law does not allow for true home ownership in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania homeowners, including those less fortunate, can lose their home because they simply could not pay their ever-rising school taxes. I think all Pennsylvania homeowners would agree that no tax should have the power to leave you homeless.
