Helen Gym Receives Three More Labor Endorsements

Gym-Speech
Gym speaks to AFSCME DC 47

Helen Gym, candidate for Philadelphia City Council At-Large, today announced the endorsements of three new labor groups.

The former teacher scored endorsements from the Teamsters Local 502– the Commonwealth Association of School Administrators; AFT Local 2026– the Faculty and Staff Federation of Community College of Philadelphia; and the AFSCME District Council 47.

“CASA supports Helen Gym because of her unbridled advocacy for children in all communities,” said Robert McGrogan, President of Teamsters Local 502. “Helen occupying an at-large seat on City Council would meant that financial stability, resources in schools and inequities that exist based on race will remain at the center of the discussion.”

Gym happily received the endorsement, saying, “I’m honored to have the support of Teamsters Local 502…as a mother of three children in Philadelphia public schools, it means a great deal to me to have such a broad base of support among our city’s education community.”

She also thanked members of AFSCME District Council 47 for their endorsement this weekend at the union’s “Party with a Purpose” event saying, “As your next city councilwoman, I will always stand up for working families in our city.”

Last month, the Council hopeful won the backing of the BMWED and collected the endorsement of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers back in February.
