Dan Hirschhorn of The Daily spoke with Santorum’s former Pennsylvania colleagues about their support for the GOP hopeful.
About 50 Pa. volunteers have traveled to New Hampshire and South Carolina to help with a campaign that has, at times, struggled to keep up with the candidate’s growing popularity.
Support from prominent Pennsylvanians is crucial to Santorum, as his rival Mitt Romney has been the primary beneficiary of donations from state residents.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — For Rick Santorum, the home-state reinforcements are coming fast.
About 50 high-level Pennsylvania elected officials, Republican Party leaders, political operatives and conservative activists have arrived in New Hampshire and South Carolina to pitch in for their former U.S. senator’s surging presidential campaign.
Supporters from back home coming to help in the closing days of a presidential campaign is nothing unusual, but it’s especially critical for Santorum, whose standing in the polls has in some ways outpaced what his political organization can accomplish. That was clear during overflow events the campaign sometimes struggled to manage.
And so a generation of politicos who got their professional start under Santorum is here to help at the zenith of his political career, staffing events, providing counsel or just offering a friendly face at a hectic moment.
“Whatever needs to be done,” said Pennsylvania state Sen. Jake Corman.
“Sen. Santorum is a very good friend of mine, and I want be here to support him,” added the former Santorum staffer whose father hired Santorum for his first job in politics. “I believe in him, I believe in what he’s trying to accomplish.
What better way to experience the New Hampshire campaign than up close and personal with a good friend?”
Other Pennsylvanians making the trip include state Sens. Kim Ward and Richard Alloway, state GOP vice chair Joyce Haas, top political operative Ray Zaborney, influential Harrisburg lobbyist Stan Rapp and prominent conservative activist Michael Geer.

Ron Paul, a patriot, who has honorably served his country, defends both the constitution and civil liberties, and is for peace and prosperity. Dr. Paul has the wisdom, foresight, honesty and integrity to be president.
Dr. Paul believes spending and deficits are destroying this country. Dr. Paul’s budget plan would save $1 trillion in the first year. Besides the spending cuts, there are other issues of importance to voters. For conservatives, Dr. Paul scores an A+ on all of them: Second Amendment protection, pro-life record, right-to-work, pro-business, anti-tax, states’ rights, you name it.
Dr. Paul also believes America should have the strongest national defense on earth — which he believes begins with not trying to constantly police the earth. Right now, our government puts our best and bravest in harm’s way on a regular basis for questionable reasons and with no discernible notion of victory. This is not supporting the troops. It’s abusing them. Dr. Paul wants an end to this absurd, costly policy.
The voters have declared Dr. Paul the alternative to the liberal, flip flopping Mitt Romney. The other candidates are simply irrelevant. In the New Hampshire Primary, Dr. Paul received more votes than all the supposed Anti-Romney (Santorum, Gingrich, and Perry) candidates combined.
The question for Republican voters is not whether they can afford to vote for Dr. Paul – it’s whether they can afford not to.
