Omeed Firouzi, who we recognized as PA’s top high school politico in our 30 under 30 list, has gotten some good local press for the award.

Firouzi has been accepted to several colleges, but is waiting to hear back from a few more to make his decision.

KINGSTON – His parents migrated from Iran seeking greater political and religious freedom a decade after the Islamic revolution.

And he was born in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., the political epicenter of the United States.

So maybe it’s not surprising Omeed Firouzi takes a keen interest in politics, even at the age of 18, despite spending most of his life in the leafy local suburb of Shavertown.

But the Wyoming Seminary senior is way more than “interested” in politics, which might explain the inclusion in a list of young Pennsylvania political “rising stars” compiled by Politics PA.

In this year’s annual list of “30 under 30” Firouzi isn’t just young, he’s the youngest. He was also named the “top high school politico” in the state.

The newly minted Democrat (he’s only 18 but registered to vote, of course) served as campaign manager for state Rep. Phyllis Mundy, D-Kingston, in November’s election.
