Here’s one for you Pittsburghers.

The Kitchen Table Patriots (KTP) this week endorsed Republicans Charley Martin and Rob Loughery for Bucks County Commissioner.

It wasn’t an enormous surprise – Martin and Loughery have campaigned on low taxes and the County’s triple A bond rating, and the Tea Party-affiliated KTP is one of Pennsylvania’s most active local conservative organizations.

But the group’s reasoning may have been a bit off. From the KTP press release:

“Det Ansinn obviously identifies with President Obama because he ‘tweeted’ on Saturday that he ‘can’t hear mention of the O in Pitt w/o wanting to hop in the car & drive there.’”

Pittsburghers may recognize “the O” as the Original Hot Dog Shop on Forbes avenue, a keystone of Steel City cuisine.

In KTP’s defense, Ansinn’s tweet came on Saturday, just a few days after President Barack Obama’s visit to Pittsburgh. It’s fortunate Ansinn didn’t use the restaurant’s alternate nickname, the “Dirty O.”

The group has been hands on in this year’s commissioner election. KTP hosted a candidates debate last week, moderated by conservative columnist Chris Freind (watch it here, the commissioners’ questions begin around minute 55).

Ansinn, a Borough Council President in Doylestown, is running with incumbent Commissioner Diane Marseglia. Republican Martin is a four-term incumbent, and Loughery was appointed to the seat earlier this spring to replace former Commissioner, now Lt. Governor Jim Cawley.

The forum led to another slight problem when Kitchen Table Patriots leader Anastasia Przybylski was quoted in The Intelligencer as saying of the candidates “they all sounded like conservatives.”

The KTP press release also addressed that quote:

“After the candidate forum, a local newspaper misquoted Anastasia Przybylski saying ‘they are all sounding like fiscal conservatives’ rather than ‘the Democrats are sounding like Republican fiscal conservatives.’”

The Intelligencer stands by its reporting.
