Pennsylvania’s ongoing budget stalemate has now entered October without a revenue package to balance the state’s budget.  

According to the Patriot News, state House and Senate members have been discussing an increase in the state’s hotel tax as a way to create recurring revenue for the state.  

The proposal would put a 5% tax on hotel stays on top of the state sales tax and local hotel taxes.  

State Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman (R-Centre) said the tax would generate $96 million this year and $165 million next year for the state.  

The Patriot News reports that Governor Tom Wolf will make an in-person pitch for the tax to the House Democratic Caucus.  

State House Sound Bites also reports the deal would also include legalizing video gaming terminals at truck stops, which the House had been pushing for.  

Both the House and the Senate are in session today.
