How Pennsylvania’s Delegation Voted on Harvey Aid Package

The U.S. House and Senate both passed the aid package for the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey, sending it to President Trump for his signature.

Pennsylvania’s delegation voted on the aid package by the same margin they voted on one of the last major aid packages, Hurricane Sandy.

In the Senate, Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey split their votes on both bills, with Casey voting in favor of both bills and Toomey voting against both bills.

In the House, Congressmen Scott Perry (R-York) and Keith Rothfus (R-Allegheny) are the only two members of Pennsylvania’s Congressional delegation to vote against both the Sandy and the Harvey aid packages.

For the Harvey aid bill, both Toomey and Rothfus took issue with the inclusion of an increase to the debt ceiling and a spending plan to keep the federal government running through December.

“Unfortunately, the agreement reached by Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and President Trump attaches hurricane relief funds to yet another suspension of the debt limit without any spending or budgetary reforms despite our national debt approaching $20 trillion,” Toomey said after the Senate vote.

“The Senate failed to pass this clean legislation and instead added a debt ceiling increase and a short term spending bill that not only adds hundreds of billions of unpaid-for spending, but also continues to harm our nation’s defenses,” Rothfus said in a statement.

  1. Toomey and Rothfus are correct. Both have indicated they would have voted for a clean hurricane aid bill. Instead, Trumpeter Swan played kissy-face with the tax-and-spend Democrats.

  2. Regardless whether or not you like Scott Perry’s position on a particular vote, there is no reason to smear with terms like “storm trooper” or “white supremacist” to imply that the congressman is racist or a Nazi clone.

  3. Scott Perry’s no vote is not a surprise since he’s a charter member of the Freedom Caucus. He does what he’s told to do. Definitely not a free thinker.

    1. In other words a good loyal storm trooper. Heard this weekend how York is a hotbed for white supremacists. I’m sure he is a hit with them. I wonder how they’d all feel if the hurricane had hit South Central PA?

    2. I absolutely agree! Perry is in lockstep with the freedom caucus and has no independence of thought whatsoever. Consequently, he has very little moral Force.
