Hugya to Kick Off PA-12 Bid Friday

John Hugya
John Hugya

Col. John A. Hugya is set to officially kick off his previously announced campaign for Congress on Friday morning at the Johnstown War Memorial.

The Memorial is home to a statue of Hugya’s former boss, the late John Murtha, who represented Pennsylvania’s 12th district for 45 years.

Along with his experience as a Chief of Staff for Murtha, Hugya, 79, is a decorated Marine who was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. After his time in the Marine Corps, Hugya began a career in law enforcement that lasted almost forty years. He is an Officer in the Fraternal Order of Police and serves on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

It’s his first bid for public office.

Rothfus was rated safe after Mark Critz made it clear he would not attempt to win back the seat.

Also running as a Democratic in this race is Erin McClelland, who runs a health care clinic in the Allegheny-Kiski valley.

  1. Getting elected can’t be easy with a name like Hug-Ya! But hey, Weiner managed somehow…

  2. He’s 79 years old? Good on him for throwing his hat in the ring.

I still imagine that this will be a lay-up race for Rothfus, but you never know. Let’s see what Hugya has to say.
