Sixth District Congressional candidate Doug Pike said Wednesday he has received the endorsement of four labor groups. The front-runner for the Democratic nomination already had received the backing of seven other labor groups.

The four groups to back him Wednesday were Elevator Constructors Local 5, United Mine Workers of America, American Postal Workers Union Local 89, and Amalgamated Transit Workers Local 1345.

Pike faces Manan Trivedi in the battle for the district’s Democratic nomination. Trivedi, a doctor and Iraq War veteran, surprised some observers by raising more than $100,000 in third fundraising quarter and receiving the endorsement of influential former state Senator Connie Williams.

But Pike still retains the endorsement of nearly every other major political player in the southeast, including Congressman Patrick Murphy and Congresswomen Allyson Schwartz. He also has raised more than $900,000, the most nationwide of any congressional challenger for an open seat. More than $600,000 of Pike’s money came from his personal fortune.
