In Philly, Gov. Rendell, Sen. Lott & Others to Solve Partisanship

The headline may be a tad ambitious.

A number of political figures, including Former Governor Ed Rendell, will participate in a Tuesday afternoon forum at the the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

The National Conversation on American Unity will focus on public service, political participation, and the polarization of politics. It’s part of a series presented by the Commission on Political Reform, as well as the Bipartisan Policy Center.

Other politicians to appear at the event include former Senators Trent Lott (R-MS) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME), former Governor Jennifer Granholm (D-MI), former Clinton Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman and former Bush 43 Education Secretary Margaret Spellings.

This forum is the second of the series, with the first being held at the Ronald Reagan Library in California. The next is scheduled for October 15th at Ohio State University.

The event is scheduled to stream live Tuesday at 1 p.m.

  1. I watched the livestream and the keynote speaker was excellent. There will be two more modernized townhall style meetings (meaning twitter and email participation from online watchers) in this 4 part series. The next one is scheduled for October 15 in Ohio and the final one is to be in Boston March 2014.

Each one has a different focus. They are being put on by http://bipartisanpolicy.org/ I thought the governors’ panel segment was for the most part a waste of time.
Gov Rendell, who I like only for his TV gangster style personality (not politically), was blaming the Republicans and even through in a punch at Gov. Corbett for not getting any of his 3 ticket items passed this past budget. Odd as I would have thought the liquor failure would have been a reason for Gov.Rendell to celebrate.

Then Rendell asked why aren’t the Republicans coming up with answers for fixing the ACA (Obamacare) instead of complaining about it. I wanted to say why are you –Democrats –who think so lowly of Republicans’ intellect asking us to come up with the solutions to your creation. You make fun of us on one hand now you are asking for our help so you can repackage the ideas as your solutions (answers). Then persuade the American people they are yours. The American people need to know the source of the solutions so they can re-elect the people who really gave them so more of them can keep coming.

Entertaining along with educating — I could add.

  2. Is this a joke? There is not one in bunch who qualifies to preach anything to anyone. Collectively they represent reasons for term limits.

  3. There is nothing wrong with partisanship per se!there is definitely a problem when one side is impervious to facts, bases its policies on religious belief, denies science and shows infinite disrespect for the other side.
