Democratic newcomer Kevin Boyle has handed a resounding defeat last night to longstanding Republican state Rep. John Perzel, who was weakened by corruption charges.

With more than 80 percent of precincts reporting, Boyle held a comfortable 8 percent lead over Perzel in the 172nd state House District, which includes parts of Mayfair, Tacony, Fox Chase, Bustleton, Rhawnhurst and Lexington Park.

We just spoke to Boyle, who said that he had not spoken with Perzel, but he has heard that Perzel had conceded.
