Inquirer Poll: Corbett Approval Stays Low

Poll breakdown from the Philadelphia Inquirer

Tom Corbett’s job approval remains on shaky ground, according to a survey of likely voters: 52 percent disapprove of his work as Governor while 38 percent approve. More striking, voters strongly disapprove of his handling of the Sandusky case when he was Attorney General, 61 to 17 percent.

The net negative 14 points is right in line with the Governor’s approval average over the past few months. But it’s balanced slightly by his personal approval numbers: 40 percent of voters like Corbett, 44 percent dislike him.

The poll was published this morning in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Click here to read reporter Angela Couloumbis’s analysis of the results, which she traces to the state’s budget as well as Sandusky.

Many political observers in PA view the Sandusky matter as a potential factor, both in the 2014 Governor’s race as well as this year’s Attorney General contest. Said one of the pollsters:

“There are a lot of things impacting his numbers, but the Penn State situation is a big factor,” said Adam Geller, chief executive of the Republican polling firm National Research Inc….

“There is no question this is a raw wound for many voters,” Geller said. “And it is not showing any signs of healing.”

The survey was conducted by the Republican firm National Research Inc. and the Democratic firm Global Strategy Group. The pollsters surveyed 601 likely voters via live calls from August 21 through 23. The margin of error is +/1 4 percent.

  1. The blackbox ‘voting’ systems don’t care if the people approve of him or not.

It doesn’t matter if Pennsylvanians can
jump through all the ID hoops or not.

    Pennsylvania doesn’t have valid elections.

PA may be the blackbox capital of the world.

The people of Philadelphia use the same defective electronics which produced
thousands. of fake votes in Ohio in 2004. Blackbox computers used in PA precincts
    caused undervote rates, historically always
less than 3%, to soar to 70-80%..

The government of Pennsylvania has systematically violated the Commonwealth’s elections laws to remove real ballots and
    deprive the citizens of representation.

The populace there is paying for it, too.

  2. Even more will disapprove of of Corbett when they get to the polls and find they can’t vote.

  3. Corbett’s role in the Sandusky investigation needs to be investigated. Clearly Pennsylvania voters want an explanation for why it took so long to have Sandusky arrested. We need an independent Attorney General to conduct this investigation, not one that Corbett has hand picked. Glad to see Kane is up 11 points over Corbett’s David Freed. She is the Attorney General we need
