Judi Reiss Announces Bid for PA1

A countywide elected official joins the Democratic field in the 1st Congressional District.

Judi Reiss, Bucks County Prothonotary, has announced a bid to run as a Democrat for the district currently represented by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks). Reiss, along with Pennsbury School Board member Debbie Wachpress and Ivyland Borough councilwoman Christina Finello, have filed paperwork with the FEC to run for the 1st District as Democrats

In an announcement video on Youtube, she talks about the current state of affairs in the district and the nation and said her leadership is needed in the district at this time.

“This is not the country I grew up in,” Reis says at the beginning of the video. “This is not the Bucks County I raised my children in and unless there is a change, this will continue, it will get worse and I fear for our future.”

“I believe that there is a need for my leadership and for change in the 1st district,” she continued.

The three minute long video starts off with television news clips covering the situation at the United States southern border and the shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh in October 2018 in which 11 worshipers were killed.

Her announcement video also details her upbringing, call to public life and involvement in Bucks County. Reiss detailed how much the community meant to her after the attacks on September 11, 2001, when her son Joshua was killed in One World Trade Center. She says in the video that her son was one of 18 Bucks County residents killed in the terrorist attack and talks about how the Garden of Reflection in Bucks County helps remember the victims from September 11th. She said she began getting back involved with the community after her son’s death by working with the preservation for the Garden of Reflection.

Prior to being elected as Prothonotary in 2017, she served as a Lower Makefield Township supervisor as a Democrat on a GOP majority board. She said this experience helped her learn how to “work with people I didn’t always agree with.”

Her announcement video did not specifically name President Donald Trump or Fitzpatrick once, despite calling Washington D.C. “broken”.

Fitzpatrick is currently in his second term in Congress representing the Philadelphia suburban district. He bested pro-Trump Republican Dean Malik in the 2018 GOP primary by 34 points in 2018 and defeated Democrat Scott Wallace by just over 2.5 points in the November midterm.

Fitzpatrick was just one of two Republicans nationwide to weather the blue wave in 2018 by winning boundaries that went to Sec. Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Fitzpatrick is set to face pro-Trump Republican and financial advisor Andrew Meehan, in the GOP primary in 2020.

  1. Judi Reiss is a small minded and vindictive suburban mom who has accomplished little to nothing in her life.

  2. If this is the quality of candidate that the Dems are putting up in PA-1- Fitzpatrick will win once again. Not by a large margin but nonetheless a victory. Why do the Dems continue to fail at recruitment?

    1. What is funny is that she’s barely been a Prothonotary for two years, and is already leapfrogging to run for Congress. Is Judi sure she shouldn’t become the 28th Democrat running for the 2020 Presidential nomination?

  3. I’m sure Fitzpatrick figures the more the merrier. His re-election should pose little problem for him. If he beat a millionaire in a bad year for the GOP in 2018, my guess is he can beat whoever the Democrats nominate in 2020. More Republicans will be out to vote in 2020 that stayed home in 2018. The Democrats certainly came out to vote in 2018 and the fact that Fitzpatrick won is a good indication he will win again.

  4. I think Fitzpatrick has done a pretty good job, tbh. He’s level headed, mature and has some serious credentials. If anything, under Fitzpatrick, Bucks has thrived with small towns getting national recognition, excellent schools and an always rising number of students going to college. If she can put forth a decent platform and take voters away from Fitzpatrick than so be it, but it won’t be easy. “I hate Trump” isn’t going to do it, as much as those who lean left believe it will. Establish your goals and show us a feasible plan of attack.

There is no reason to be ashamed of Fitzpatrick, or his older brother quite frankly. We should consider ourselves lucky. Good luck to all.

  5. I am leery of anyone who says the area is not the same as they grew up in, and presumably wants to take it backwards to the “good old days”. Is she a closet Trumpster?

  6. Did Judi Reiss buy a new face?! That family photo of her looks like a completely different person, lol

  7. Judi Reiss is a joke. She does not have the infrastructure or money to run this race. More importantly- she isn’t very compelling, has poor speaking skills, and is the opposite of inspirational. Who states they have a “perfect life” in their campaign video?! What a joke.

    1. Judi Reiss is an excellent candidate who got elected to public office so saying she has no money or infrastructure sort of misses the point. You seem to be downplaying the voters who elected this person to office. All Dem candidates running in PA1 are good ones including Ms. Reiss.

      1. The quality of her campaign video is direct evidence she has no money. As to holding public office- I would bet a large amount of money that no one even knows what a prothonotary is nor do they care. Which she conveniently didn’t mention in her video- because she knows it! She also fails to mention even one issue she will be fighting for. Not even one? Can’t even mention healthcare, immigration, education?
