UPDATE: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette similarly reported Tuesday that a grand jury has accused Senator Orie of widespread use of her public office for political campaigns. The indictments will likely become public this week, the paper reported.

Sources close to the investigation of State Sen. Jane Orie tell KDKA’s Marty Griffin the grand jury finished its work a week ago.

The jury recommended what are being described as “significant multiple count” indictments against Jane Orie and a staff member.

Jane Orie is the Republican Majority Whip and the third-ranking Republican in the State Senate.

If Orie is indicted, she would have to step down as the Senate’s majority whip. She is the highest ranking female in the General Assembly is regularly speculated as someone who could seek higher office. (She briefly considered last summer a run for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination.)
