Mitt Romney appears to be taking out insurance against possible protest/sympathy votes against him on Tuesday. The GOP frontrunner rolled out three more PA endorsements after making a swing through the state: U.S. Reps. Mike Kelly (R-Butler), Pat Meehan (R-Delaware) and G.T. Thompson (R-Centre).
The announcement came just a few hours after former Rick Santorum backer Rep. Lou Barletta threw his support behind the former Massachusetts Governor. Romney held campaign events inAllegheny and Delaware counties Monday.
“I’m honored to have such strong support in Pennsylvania,” said Romney in a press release. “Pennsylvania families have been hurt by President Obama’s failure to create jobs and his excessive spending. Along with the help of Mike, Pat, and Glenn, I trust my message of more jobs, less debt, and smaller government will resonate with the state’s voters.”
Editor’s note: Nice try, Romney. Thompson’s friends call him “G.T.”
Kelly:
“Mitt Romney has proposed an economic vision that will create jobs, empower small businesses and spur growth. That is a perfect contrast to President Obama’s record of government intrusion, higher taxes, and out-of-control spending. I am pleased to endorse Mitt Romney, and hope that Pennsylvania will follow.”
Meehan:
“Mitt Romney has shown that he is the candidate who can be trusted to turn troubled enterprises around. As a conservative businessman, he created jobs and balanced budgets. While Governor of Massachusetts, he turned a $3 billion shortfall into a $2 billion “rainy day” fund. He also saved our country from embarrassment by rescuing the Winter Olympics. America needs a candidate with a record of experience and leadership on the most important issue of the day. That man is Mitt Romney and I am proud to stand with him.”
Thompson:
“President Obama’s failed record has hurt middle class families and hindered the growth of small businesses. Our country cannot take four more years of high unemployment and fiscal recklessness. Mitt Romney is the candidate I trust to control spending and restore economic security for the middle class. I am proud to stand with him and call on my fellow Pennsylvanians to do the same.”
