Kelly to Dahlkemper:  “Why did you vote to adjourn, Congresswoman?”

Butler, PA — One week after Congresswoman Dahlkemper voted with Speaker Pelosi to adjourn Congress before passing a federal budget and before scheduling an up or down vote on the 2001 tax cuts, Mike Kelly (R-Butler) called on Congresswoman Dahlkemper to explain her vote.  The decision to adjourn until the election passed by a one vote margin.  Kelly released the following statement:

“One week after Congresswoman Dahlkemper cast a deciding vote to adjourn Congress before passing a budget and before having an up or down vote on extending the 2001 tax cuts, we have yet to hear an explanation from the Congresswoman on why she chose to cut and run.  Almost 40 members of her own party had the backbone to stand up to their leadership and vote to actually stay in session and do their jobs.  But the Congresswoman, who pretends to be undecided on extending the tax cuts, once again chose to be an all too willing vote for her Speaker.  By leaving Washington Congress failed to pass a federal budget and left raising taxes on countless employers and families during a recession on the table.  Now it is likely these two critically important items will be left to a lame duck session of Congress when many Members won’t be held accountable.

So, in the interest of being clear with the voters in the 3rd Congressional District, I ask, ‘Why did you vote to adjourn, Congresswoman?’  I hope the voters of this district don’t hold their breath for a response.”
