Kenyatta Named DNC Vice Chair

Malcolm Kenyatta

State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia) was elected as a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Saturday night.

Kenyatta joins the vice chair position alongside Artie Blanco, a longtime union and Latino civic engagement advocate from Nevada, and David Hogg, a survivor of the 2018 Parkland High School shooting and gun violence activist from Florida.

“To my fellow DNC members – I will never forget the trust you’ve placed in me and this phenomenal team,” Kenyatta posted on social media Sunday morning. “We are going to revive this party and get sh-t done for our families!”

Longtime Democratic operative and Minnesota state party leader Ken Martin, who served as a vice chair of Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, was elected chair.

The DNC’s eight-person leadership team will include two Pennsylvanians, as Virginia McGregor, a longtime Democratic fundraiser from Scranton, was reelected Treasurer.

Kenyatta told MSNBC that “Democrats left Maryland united because we understand what’s at stake in this moment. I know there are folks who are spilling a lot of ink, talking about the need to write an obituary for the Democratic Party. What you saw at National Harbor was a revival. You saw a Democratic Party that talked about what we’re going to do to build a party that is ready to win.

“There are races we have to win down-ballot. If we want to win nationally, it’s going to start with investing and winning locally.”

The Democratic National Committee election, held every four years, has 448 voting members and is conducted in National Harbor, Md. Every state’s chair and vice chair of their state Democratic Party and more than 200 elected members vote in the election.

  1. So the DNC is a “Governing Body” of the Party. So we are talking Ethics here.

Meanwhile he hired that psycho nutcase Westmoreland County Chair to run his campaign for Auditor, which is a conflict of interest. He owes Mark Pinsley a huge apology. He has friends in the Philadelphia Inquirer that squashed this whole story coming to light. He talked smack on Nina Turner and Bernie Sanders on Twitter. Good Job!!! 👏👏👏 He’s such a “Progressive”. 🙄 He’s about as phony as a Four Dollar Bill.

  2. Running for yet another office despite accomplishing little or nothing in his current office. The only question is what’s next? 2025 or 2026?
