Klobuchar To Campaign in Philly, Pittsburgh

Taking on the blue wall.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) will be kicking off her three state “Blue Wall Tour” in Pennsylvania tomorrow in which the 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful plans to discuss key economic issues at stake in the upcoming election.

In a release about the tour through Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, Klobuchar’s campaign boosted the importance of “investing in infrastructure, strengthening our rural and agricultural communities, laying out an optimistic economic agenda.”

“I think people want something different. They want someone who’s gonna bring us together and lead and win big,” Klobuchar said after the most recent Democratic debate, highlighted in the release. “They want someone who gets that the work doesn’t end on election day, that it starts on Inauguration Day. So that is the clear case that I’m making. And the more I get out there, the better it is and that’s what I’m gonna keep doing.”

Her first appearance will be in Philadelphia participating in the AFL-CIO 2020 Workers Presidential Summit on Tuesday evening. That forum will also include speeches from former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), progressive billionaire activist Tom Steyer, entrepreneur Andrew Yang, and author Marianne Williamson.

Klobuchar will head to Pittsburgh to participate in a union meeting Wednesday afternoon and hold a meet-and-greet Wednesday evening at Stack’d Burgers in Oakland.

Klobuchar will become at least the ninth 2020 Democratic presidential candidate to make a public appearance in the state.

The most recent 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful to make a campaign appearance in the state was Sen. Bernie Sanders who delivered an address at the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America’s annual convention in Pittsburgh in late August. Sanders received the endorsement of the UE during this trip to Pittsburgh as well.

The Trump administration has kept a presence in Pennsylvania in recent months as well. Trump spoke at an ethane cracker plant in Beaver County in mid August touting his administration’s economic policies and he held a rally in Montoursville in May, the day before the state’s primary. Vice President Mike Pence made two visits in the state during the summer promoting USMCA and headlined a PAGOP dinner in June

Former Vice President Joe Biden has remained the leader in national polls and in Pennsylvania, while Klobuchar has found herself more towards the middle of the crowded field. An Emerson College poll conducted in late March didn’t have Klobuchar place garnering more than 0% of the vote in the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania. A Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll conducted in April had Klobuchar in seventh place with 3% of the vote in the state’s primary. Only five Democratic presidential candidates were included in the most recent Franklin and Marshall College poll in August, which didn’t include Klobuchar. The Real Clear Politics Average of national polls has Klobuchar registering at 1.2%, putting her in 9th place in the crowded primary.

Pa. holds its 2020 primary on April 28, right at the midpoint of the Democratic calendar.

The Pennsylvania Republican Party did not immediately respond to comment on these upcoming campaign appearances.
