Pat Toomey leads Joe Sestak by 9 points in the latest Rasmussen poll (46%-37%). This largely remains unchanged from last month’s Rasmussen poll which showed Toomey leading 45% to 39%.
Rasmussen did a seperate poll where they included leaners – those who initially say they are unsure who they would support but after answering more questions, they divulge their preference. In this poll, Toomey leads 48% to 40%.
Rasmussen says their polls have shown that leaners become more important after Labor Day.
Pat Toomey has lead in every Rasmussen poll that has been taken on this race.
Pat Toomey also continues to have the edge among independents, he is currently leading by a 2-1 margin, according to the same Rasmussen poll. This is important to note because Joe Sestak brought in New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, an independent by party affiliation to rally for the Democrat. This poll does not reflect that event but it will be an important indicator to watch for the next poll to see if that number changes as a result of Bloomberg’s endorsement.
Some other indicators from the Rassmussen poll:
22% of Pennsylvanians say the economy is getting better while 54% say the economy is getting worse. Of the group that say the economy is getting worse, 64% are supporting Toomey. In addition, among the group that say the ecoonomy is getting better, 74% say they would prefer Sestak.
The President has a 43% approval rating in the state and 56% disapprove of the President.
