LCV Action Fund Endorses Patrick Murphy for Re-Election in Pennsylvania’s 8th District

LCV Action Fund Endorses Patrick Murphy for Re-Election in Pennsylvania’s 8th District

Washington, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Patrick Murphy (PA-08) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Murphy received an excellent 93% score on LCV’s 2009 National Environmental Scorecard and has a lifetime LCV score of 91%.*

“Patrick Murphy has a distinguished record of fighting for clean energy jobs for Pennsylvania,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “We are proud to endorse Congressman Murphy for re-election because he has shown time and again that he knows the policies needed to grow Pennsylvania’s economy and keep America’s competitive edge are the same policies that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful global warming pollution.”

Rep. Murphy voted for the House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act that would help create clean energy jobs in Pennsylvania, reduce carbon pollution and increase energy independence. He also supported the single largest investment in clean energy in history – more than $80 billion for energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transit in the economic recovery package, with substantial investments going to Pennsylvania’s 8th district to create clean energy jobs and more energy efficient buildings.

“As an Iraq war veteran, Congressman Murphy understands that our dependence on foreign oil helps our enemies, hurts our economy and puts our national security at risk,” said Josh McNeil, Executive Director of Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania. “Pennsylvania appreciates his continued efforts to ensure that our state and our nation lead the 21st century’s clean energy economy.”

Rep. Murphy has assembled an impressive record of working to help businesses create clean energy jobs since his election in 2006. Rep. Murphy introduced and passed a bill that will prepare students for clean energy careers by helping technical schools to modernize, and voted for the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act to provide $20 billion in tax incentives for businesses to invest in, develop and use renewable energy. He is also a co-sponsor of the Clean Water Restoration Act, which would close loopholes that allow polluters to dump toxins into America’s waterways.

Rep. Murphy is also featured on LCVAF’s GiveGreen website, http://lcv.org/givegreen, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates. For a complete list of LCV Action Fund’s 2010 congressional endorsements visit http://www.lcv.org/2010.
