Lehigh County: Who’s Running For Office?

Here at Politics PA, we want to make sure that you are aware of who is running for elected office and where they stand.

Today, we take a look at the candidates for office in Lehigh County.

 

County Commissioner At-Large (vote for not more than 4)

The legislative powers of the County shall be vested in an elective body which shall be known as the Board of Commissioners. The Board of Commissioners shall have and exercise all powers and perform any functions not denied it by the Constitution of Pennsylvania, by the Charter, this Code, or by the General Assembly at any time.

County Controller

The Lehigh County Controller’s office is on the frontlines of identifying county government waste and inefficiency. We propose solutions and savings alternatives that make our county government more accountable and transparent. The Controller and the highly qualified team of professionals are responsible for monitoring county finances, investigating campaign finance violations and serving as the fiscal watchdog for your county tax dollars.

District Attorney

The District Attorney’s Office is charged with seeking justice, deciding when criminal charges will be filed, and fairly and efficiently prosecuting individuals charged with committing felonies and misdemeanors in Lehigh County. The District Attorney works closely with all police departments in the county and state and federal law enforcement officials on investigations and crime-fighting and public safety initiatives.

Sheriff

The Office of the Sheriff serves all original civil, criminal and protection from abuse documents issued by the Court of Common Pleas. The office also provides security for the County’s courtrooms, judges and buildings. The Sheriff’s Office transports prisoners, holds sales to collect debts on both real and personal property, investigates and apprehends fugitives and bail jumpers and preserves the peace at riots and civil strike injunctions.

Coroner

Investigate the cause of death, and determine the manner of death, of persons who die within the boundaries of Lehigh County.

Magisterial District Judge (MDJ) 

Magisterial District Court is the first level of judicial authority in Pennsylvania and is the court where most people experience the judicial system for the first time. Magisterial District Judges handle all traffic cases, minor criminal cases, and civil cases involving amounts up to $12,000. Magisterial District Judges also set bail and conduct preliminary hearings in misdemeanor and felony criminal cases to determine if the cases should be dismissed or transferred to the Court of Common Pleas for further proceedings.
