Lentz Dialing for CeaseFirePA

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

Bryan Lentz is hitting the phones. The former State Rep. and 2010 congressional candidate is the dialing membership drive with the gun control advocates at CeaseFirePA. The group aims to add 5,000 members by summer’s end, starting off with a July 13 phonebank.

“I am happy help any effort to reduce the senseless gun violence that plagues too many communities,” said Lentz. “I thank all my friends in advance for coming out. We plan to have some fun and do some good.”

CeaseFirePA is one of the largest gun control advocacy groups in Pennsylvania. They, “seek enactment of sensible gun policies through grassroots activism,” and “supports public officials who favor reforms that help reduce gun violence,” according to their website.

Since losing to Pat Meehan in last year’s PA-7 election, Lentz has remained a loud voice on the issue of gun violence. In February, the former prosecutor and Iraq War veteran took the helm of the gun violence task force in Philadelphia – a joint project of the Philly District Attorney’s office and the PA Attorney General.

Lentz was endorsed by CeaseFirePA in 2010, while Meehan had the support of the National Rifle Association. He has made gun issues a cornerstone of his career. As a State Rep., he sponsored a bill to close the so-called “Florida gun loophole.”

  1. Why do people not understand that when you criminalize the carrying of a weapon the people who are harmed are ONLY the ones that are law abiding citizens? Someone who intends to use a gun to commit a crime DOESN’T CARE if it is illegal to carry that gun!

Restricting the rights of law abiding citizens makes them victims and gives the criminals a free pass to murder, rape, and rob. After all the police can’t be everywhere! The second you need a police officer they are minutes away… and the gap between that second and the minutes it takes them to arrive can get you killed.

  2. You gun nuts sure know how to stay on message. Why don’t you explain to me why a criminally insane person should be able to get a permission slip from the Florida Dept. of Agriculture to carry a concealed gun in Pennsylvania, even after being denied a permit by PA authorities. Please also explain how a policy like this reduces crime.

  3. Typical liberal: focus on inanimate tools of the criminal’s trade, instead of on the criminal. Focusing on the criminal would be too mean-spirited, right?

    Or worse yet, racist.

    Right?

  4. Don’t you people at CeaseFire ever get tired of being wrong? Everything you do or try to do INCREASE’S crime rates and violence. People suffer and die because of your work.

  5. Hollow, misguided and ignorant. Anyone with a brain can go to the FBI website and use their UCR tool to see in plain numerical data that states with strict gun control laws have higher crime rates across the board. But, don’t let the facts get in the way!

  6. Very misguided. It’d the criminals, not the guns! You are attempting to turn the law-abiding citizenry into victims.
