LGBT Community Unites Around Shapiro for AG

lgbt-pa-flagWith the primary less than a month away, Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro picked up some more endorsements in his bid for the Democratic nomination for Attorney General.

Equality PA, Liberty City Democratic Club and the Capital Region Stonewall Democrats, as well as individuals such as Mark Segal, Adrian Shanker, Chris Dietz, and Michelle Kessler all endorsed Shapiro.

Segal is an author, activist and publisher of the Philadelphia Gay News. Shanker is an LGBT Advocate and Chair of the Pennsylvania Democrats’ LGBT Caucus. Dietz is the Milliersburg Borough Council President and Kessler is the UFCW OUTreach International Chair.

“Josh has been an ally of the LGBT community since the very beginning of his public service,” said Segal. “I’m proud to add my name to the long list of LGBT leaders from around the state who support Josh’s campaign.”

“It’s critical that we have an Attorney General who will protect and fight for the rights of the LGBT community across our Commonwealth,” said Ben Allatt, Harrisburg City Councilman and chair of the Capital Region Stonewall Democrats. “In Josh Shapiro, we’re backing a true progressive leader who will fight for a more just, inclusive and equal Pennsylvania.”

“I’ve spent my career protecting the rights of all Pennsylvanians, especially the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members of our communities and Commonwealth and am proud to have Equality PA’s support in this campaign,” Shapiro responded. “As Attorney General, I’ll continue to protect the LGBT community and uphold the rights of all Pennsylvanians.

Shapiro will face off against Allegheny County DA Stephen Zappala and Northampton County DA John Morganelli in the April 26th primary.

So why has he been “protecting the rights of all Pennsylvanians, especially the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members of our communities and Commonwealth”

Why do LGBT need special protection?? – aren’t we all supposed to be treated equally under the law?
    ==========================================

we just need the same protections you have under the law for being female. are those special?

  2. Sen. Hardy Williams may want to re-examine his support of Zappala.

What Zappala did in the Leon Ford case is reprehensible. He helped the Police cover-up after they shot an innocent, unarmed kid in Pittsburgh. Ford – an unarmed 19YO – was shot after Police mistook him for someone else, cursed him, called him a liar, and told him they would “get his Black ass out of his car when [they] wanted his Black ass out of the car.” Despite the fact that Ford did nothing wrong (he had valid license, insurance and registration), Zappalla charged Ford. Ford had no record of criminal convictions and was laying in a hospital bed when Zappala charged him – paralyzed by the Police bullets that ripped through his spine. Zappala’s Office lost the case in Court when a jury exonerated Mr. Ford. Before the trial, Zappala and the D.A.’s Office tried to conceal an official Report that criticized the Police involved and questioned the credibility of the officer that shot Mr. Ford. The Judge had to threaten to toss the case and three times order the DA’s Office to release the Report before Zappala finally gave it to Mr. Ford’s attorneys. In short – Zappala charged a kid that should never have been charged and then tried to bury a Report that the kid needed to defend himself from the false charges. Zappala is worse than Rahm Emanuel in Chicago.

  3. So why has he been “protecting the rights of all Pennsylvanians, especially the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members of our communities and Commonwealth”

Why do LGBT need special protection?? – aren’t we all supposed to be treated equally under the law? So how would Shapiro treat the rights of unborn babies?

  4. Zappala’s Campaign Manager is busy fishing. He wants his last days of freedom to be spent at the lake.

He never knew voter intimidation was going to land him in jail.

He didn’t realize that people wear wires. Employees he shit on – got even.

He didn’t realize that voters wont take his abuse.

Big man in his own mind. He will cry like a baby girl behind bars.

  5. This is crazy. Who the Hell cares what the gays and lesbos want? It’s the Unions!! I deliver the Unions!!!

Just ignore the fact that Little Stevie has not tried a case since he has been D.A.!! Just ignore it. He is the Son of a Justice and the Grandson of a Legislator. Did you know that?!!

Oh boy … This isn’t going well. Morganelli has to pick up his attacks on Shapiro. I’m gonna give him a call now ….

  6. Everyone: I’m issuing a whining sissy alert on emergency broadcast. Be aware!

  7. ATTENTION — a bigot retard alert has been issued on Observer. He is dumb and not too dangerous. Just give him a cup of TEA and he will get distracted.

  8. ATTENTION — a bigot regard alert has been issued on Observer. He is dumb and not too dangerous. Just give him a cup of TEA and he will get distracted.

  10. Oh Wow, what a huge deal! I was on the fence before this endorsement… Now I’m DEFINITELY voting for Shap… I mean Zappala.

  11. Run for an office for which you are qualified. The Republicans will grill you in November for NO experience………give me a break. Why did you run for this office????? Another Dem loss in Nov……….who are the brilliant strategy idiots who managed this fiasco? Another Republican pick-up office and victory. If you ran to get your “name” out for another future run—-that really sucks.

  12. As a random voter completely unaffiliated with the Shapiro campaign, I can’t believe how much this endorsement has decided my vote. I am definitely voting for Josh! And I am not being paid by Josh to post comments on political websites, either.
